The challenging part in creating a visual identity lies not in finding beautiful landscapes but rather in finding a setting that speaks to the population at large in a universal way. Far Cry opted for the tropical island, which represents the idea of paradise to the general public. They then reversed this image by transforming it into hell on earth (paradise gone wrong). They achieved impact through contrast. Very few settings on the planet tie in with a specific set of ideas or emotions strongly enough to achieve such sharp contrasts or affinities (affinity is another way to attain impact). Some settings offer this potential but are lacking either in terms of originality or of variety in their limited environments.
