Multiplayer in Far Cry 2 attempts to include the dynamic elements of the singleplayer game (such as fire propagation) and to provide as accessible gameplay as possible so that it is available to all skill levels and so that players have specific gameplay aspects to keep in mind when designing their own maps in the map editor.

There will be sixteen players per map, and the game will ship with fourteen developer-designed maps.

We've got nine playable characters. You choose one of your preference. You get biographies and background information at the start of the game. We worked hard to make sure they're credible characters.

We worked with a consultant - he did documentaries about mercenaries in Africa - we made it as real as possible. Then we created a set of characters. Nine are available, one is playable. There's even female mercenaries; we didn't believe they existed but apparently they do.

The other eight characters you'll meet in the game. They'll give you side missions, help you out if you're in trouble, sometimes you'll end up fighting them. You need to create relationships - they'll push you to make decisions - you're going to have to pay for decisions; the benefits or the negatives. There are implications.

You’ll hear the pristine mechanics of a brand new AK47 work smoothly as you reload it for the first time, but as the gun picks up dust and grime the moving parts will deteriorate in the harsh African climate. Your AK will crunch horribly when you fit a new mag, reload times will be longer and sometimes your gun will jam and you’ll have to tap S repeatedly to sort it out.
