Ubisoft announced within the last 2 minutes !!

The first patch for PC will be released today worldwide, and will autoupdate when you launch the game. Patch 1.01
it features several fixes and updates including all of the following key improvements:

Multiplayer

- Server's IP address now displays in lobby, beside the match’s name (for direct IP join to work)
- Dedicated Server can now be launched in command line.
- Improved match start conditions. Ranked games can now also start if the player max is attained and everybody but the host is ready.
- Fixed a bug causing random crashes when joining a game.
- Ranked matches in progress will no longer display in the match list.
- Fixed players with same name by using identifiers instead of names.
- Fixed crash when creating a LAN game without a network cable.
- The diamond pool is now always validated after class upgrades, reset or rank up to avoid getting more diamonds than you are supposed to for your rank.
- When creating a dedicated server with PunkBuster enabled, then close it to create another but this time with PunkBuster disabled, PunkBuster will still be considered ON, on this new server.
- Fixed a problem where a player could get stuck (and couldn’t get killed) after pressing the interaction key while wounded and getting rescued by a teammate at the same time.
- Fixed players getting disconnected if they have too many user maps and try to enter the map rotation menu in a Player or Ranked match.
- Vehicles will now always respawn even if they are never used.
- Fixed users not being able to see a match if the host switched match mode after a rank.
- Fixed a glitch that could make a player invisible to another.
- Fixed incorrect check for negative values when adjusting diamond count.
- Fixed a problem where a player would render through objects if healing a wounded playing while being wounded at the same time.
- Fixed reload not being interrupted on the host when a client picks a weapon while reloading.
- Fixed Field Manuals not unlocking after game mode change.

Singleplayer

- Fixed health not changing with the difficulty level.
- Keyboard controls remapping in single mode now carry into multiplayer mode.
-A buddy will no longer get stuck when healing him while player is receiving damage.
- Stats of favourite weapon are now properly reset between loaded save games.
- The mortar will no longer move the player through wall.
- Mission objectives markers are now show properly after loading a save game.

General

- Fixed glider key remapping.
- Game will now minimize in order to show the website when clicking on ubi.com.
- Dolby 5.1 is now supported for most sound cards.
- Fixed a random crash that could happen when pressing ESC to cancel a Benchmark run.
- Added CPU Intensive benchmark test run.
- Fixed Jackal Tapes and Partner Tapes pages.

Map editor

- Fixed crash in editor when deleting many objects in very rapid succession.
- Fixed crash in editor during parsing of the map headers.

This patch is just a first step in our efforts to support you and our games, and we are still working on other issues reported, meaning you can expect other patches and updates to come soon.

Thanks all for your patience as we continue working on improving your gaming experience.
It still has a dam long way to go in my personal opinion, and we are in regular contact with fellow gamers, that all say the same... sort it out !

VortezHardware released a nice true article some 10 days ago, and its only just come to light to me, so i thought i would publish it.

I have not published any new news since the game was released because of my sheer disappointment with the game... It has so much potential, yet it is no fun to play.

Anyway on with VortezHardware article, It goes with out saying these days that the bigger magazines and websites MUST have contracts with the bigger gaming companies, because why do they get all the news and videos first, why do they praise the games so much, when in fact there so rubbish.. trash in fact.

At least VortezHardware speaks the truth !

Far Cry was indeed an absolute classic. It's hard to think that the game is so many years old and it still looks and feels so fantastic. The lighting, shadows, character detail and overall story was phenomenal and there has been little to match up to the standards Far Cry set. With this in mind Far Cry 2 really did have huge expectations.

Throughout the game you are given missions which you have to fulfil. This can become quite tedious. Very similar to the style which is adopted in Assassins Creed. You obtain a mission brief, carry out the objective and return to receive the next brief. This for me felt quite repetitive. It's very much the case of drive here, shoot up enemies, drive there shoot up some more enemies. The distance you have to travel to complete missions really slows down the gameplay and you might well get bored quite quickly.
And to finish it off they say that the game does not merit a purchase, which is also my opinion !

To conclude, this game was far from what I expected. With the high expectations that Far Cry the original set, Far Cry 2 did have some tough goals to achieve and sadly I feel they have not been. Enemy battles are the very much the same at the beginning of the game as they are through to the end, you might find this fun for 30 minutes but for the duration of the game itself? it gets quite boring. The bad points put aside, the game is a visual paradise but is this enough to merit it being a worthwhile purchase? I'm not too sure it is.
View the full article over at VortezHardware Thanks guys for speaking the truth !

Ubisoft’s told videogaming 24/7that you’ll be downloading user-created Far Cry 2 maps both from Ubisoft’s servers and other gamers’ consoles: it all depends on speed.

The service is through Xbox.com or PSN’s network, but it’s on Ubisoft’s server

There are two strategies, because if you created a map and then if you [set up] a match with it, people that connect to your game will download it from you

But if you post it on Ubisoft’s server, then players will connect to your game but they won’t have your map. The engine will select which has the best connection - is it from you or the Ubisoft server? - and then it will download it from the fastest connection
Read the entire article over at videogaming 24/7 Glad im playing on the PC !

Videogamer recently did there hands on multiplayer write-up, and have quoted multiplayer producer Richard Gaetan saying it will be more fun.

When pushed to answer whether he thought Far Cry 2 was a better game than CoD4, Gaetan replied:

I think it's more fun for everybody. In Call of Duty 4, the good guys are always the same, they always play the same way. In Far Cry 2 you cannot do that. You have to adapt, you have to change your strategy. And with the map editor you won't be able to learn your maps, because you have so many and if you want to play with your friends and with different people then you have to switch - it will be a bit of a surprise all of the time. So I think it's more fun.
So that's his own personal opinion; which he is entitled to, and may have been pushed into by sneaky wording.

I think its rather naughty of them to start comparing such great games, they are both different games.
If Gaetan did say that, I think he may have been pushed into it. Why ? Ill explain...

CoD4 players do play a specific way, lol probably like absolutely every other player as well, Its called there OWN way. To say that CoD 4 players alone always play the same way, Just sounds stupid ?
Surely players adapt to there environment, and learn to play how the game wants them to play. After some time you learn what is the best way to achieve certain tasks and objectives and how weapons and maps differ, so that would mean the game moulds players, and not visa versa...

Lazy Gamer (A South African Gaming News Site), what a name!

These guys defiantly arnt lazy, throwing out a 4 page huge write-up for Far Cry 2, where do I start !

The review is broken down into the following stages:

So What’s it all about

LP Pharand and Clint Hocking talk to Lazygamer

Hands-on with Far Cry 2’s Single Player Campaign

Hands-On With Far Cry 2’s Multiplayer

A Map Editor To Destroy All Map Editors

And the article begins, with some breif history and how it all began, which i thought was a real nice touch.

Far Cry 2 began development in 2005, before the awful Far Cry: Instincts had made it to consoles. The developers from Ubisoft Montreal were asked to renew the Far Cry brand and bring something special to the plate. 174 people worked on the game for a total of three and a half years.

Inspiration was taken from books such as Joseph Conrad’s The Heart of Darkness as well as movies such as the 1961 Japanese film, Yojimbo, Apocalypse Now, Red Harvest and Fist Full of Dollars.
And then quickly moves into the typical question and answers phase, Where the team interviews LP and Clint Hocking.
They then manage to get an hours gameplay in single player mode,

Characters look sharp and the animations are realistic. You will have complex areas of towns, huts, rivers, roads and people as well as open savannas with animals and plains. The framerate has taken a bit of a knock from it though as you will easily see that it doesn’t run very close to the 60fps mark but still keeps things smooth and playable.
Moving straight onto the MP

The game ships with 14 maps, six large, four medium and six small. This does however, mean absolutely nothing. While the maps are a lot of fun to play, the real fun is going to come in the shape of the map editor.
I was a little disappointed, they really didn't cover very much of the multiplayer at all, all interviews lately have skimmed over multiplayer, and straight into the map editor, just like lazygamer does as well. Is there a conspiracy ? Is it really that good ? Is there something wrong ? Don't they want to say ?

Im not going to quote any more of the map editor write-up, we've seen it all before... I started writing this review happy that they had gone into great detail, but then came to the multilayer write up to find that it was just 4 paragraphs of text, covering surprise surprise, fire and how it resembles cod4 multiplayer set-up...

I may as well just point you to the map editor write up, They seem to have made this game far to reliant on this all singing and dancing map editor, And im not convinced its going to suffice the multiplayer side for very long.

Big thanks to Lazygamer for a really big write up, Shame it only skimmed over the multiplayer gameplay though. I suspect Ubisoft told them what they could and couldn't write though... Only time will tell.

Videogamer wrote a hands on preview for the multiplayer side of the game yesterday for the Playstation 3 Console.
It goes into some detail how multiplayer will work, and take you through how everything pulls together to make it more enjoyable and compares it to COD 4 and Halo style gameplay.

Of course, when you're roaming the streets of an African shanty town, it pays to have a friend by your side. In Far Cry 2's main campaign you have access to buddies who will risk their lives to rescue you in combat, and in multiplayer you'll be able to perform the same service for your team mates. Assuming the opposition doesn't completely destroy you (with a rocket, for example), there will be a brief window of opportunity after an attack knocks you out of the fight. If a friend can get to you before you bleed to death, they'll help you back up to your feet and you can carry on fighting. However, there's a catch here: your attacker might still be in the vicinity - and if they've not finished you off, there's probably a reason for that. Remember the sniper scene from the end of Full Metal Jacket? In this game, rescuing a fallen comrade is extremely risky. All the same, you'll want to give it a go because a) you'll feel like a champion if you pull it off and b) saving a friend means their kill isn't counted on the other side's score. In a close team deathmatch, this could be the deciding factor that brings you victory.
Very nice well put together review, Oh yeah the link >> Thanks Videogamer !

Ubisoft and Eurogamer yesterday announced that Jackal Hunt, a special Far Cry 2 web-game, is set to launch today (9th Oct 08)

Presented in association with our good selves, Jackal Hunt is a turn-based multiplayer game and competition in which players have to try and track down a specific player and bump him off before another, unidentified player takes them out instead.

The game will show you the location of your target, but not the person tracking you. Eek! However, you do get to see the person tracking them, allowing you to try and triangulate to some extent. The idea is to set as high a score as possible by killing enemies, collecting pickups and surviving for as long as possible.

If you're good enough to rise to the rank of Jackal and put a score on a leaderboard, you could win one of four gaming PCs, ten XFX graphics cards, a PlayStation 3, an Xbox 360, a Philips amBX ambient gaming peripheral system, or loads of Far Cry 2 merchandise.

Direct link to source, It hasn't been announced yet but it is still midday. So watch this space, well be posting the relevant update shortly

Farcry 2 Grabs 9 out of 10!

Official Playstation Magazine have scored Far Cry 2 an awesome 9 out of 10 In an article posted over at Computer and Video Gaming.

Whatever happens you'll believe it's a real world and a fantastic setting for the action. It's not as dense or as varied as, say, Oblivion - you'll go somewhere, kill everyone, every mission - but it's utterly convincing and engrossing.

We're in a massively exciting period for FPS games and, along with contemporaries like Mirror's Edge, Bioshock and Fallout 3, this is an essential chapter in the new wave of shooters.
The article doesn't say when the Magazine is released, but keep your eye out for it, That's two 9 out of 10's so far !

Call of Duty 4 Was The New Reference For Multiplayer

Richard Gaetan Far cry 2 Multiplayer producer has admitted that Call Of Duty 4 was used as a huge reference for the multiplayer mode of Far cry 2

For sure, starting last fall, it was like the new reference for multiplayer

We played it a lot, and people on the team played it a lot, and then we discussed. Some people wanted to be exactly like it and then we said, ‘No. Our core technology and the core mechanics of single-player are not Call of Duty-like.

We wanted to keep some of the cool things that Call of Duty brought – the progressions system is one thing – but then, we tried the same progression, as in you unlock weapons as you go, etc, but it didn’t work for us. It was a bit too chaotic. Our map, with the dynamics of the destructibility, the fire, the night and day cycle: it wasn’t working fine.
The team, instead, focused on elements from the single-player game and adapted them for the online side.

So we said, ‘OK, we have some mechanics that are really good from the single-player and we’re going to bring them to the multiplayer and just adapt them.’ So, some of the animation, reloading, iron sight, we tweaked them so they’re a bit faster in multiplayer, but not as fast as another shooter

Alex Simmons and Martin Robinson , of IGN UK discuss Far Cry 2 multiplayer in some great detail and reveal a few new screenshots (that Ubisoft no longer releases to the dedicated fan sites !! shame on you)

The article covers some good and some bad points and is played out on the XBox 360 console version

To me, a multiplayer game needs to be accessible above everything else. Players need to understand what you have to do the moment you're dropped in the game and that wasn't the case with Kane & Lynch. With Far Cry 2, however, you know exactly what you have to do -- shoot the enemy!

Another aspect that marked the game out was being able to revive team mates. It opened up some quite dark strategies -- at one point I sniped someone from the opposing team and as their teammates went to revive them I picked them off one by one!

Game rules aside, how do you think it played compared to, say, Call of Duty 4?

When we first got the single-player code in I wasn't that impressed with how it looked and played, and that was on a 360, as was our multiplayer experience. Unfortunately the main shooting mechanics of Far Cry 2 don't stand up to the opposition, it's not as fast or precise, and that's quite obvious in multiplayer. It's not as solid a shooter as either Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4, and I'm not sure if it does enough different to oust either of those games from the top spot. Gamers -- even the most dedicated hardcore -- only have time for one or two multiplayer games, due to the dedication needed to get good and learn the maps, so I'm not sure Far Cry 2 has enough to take from either of those.

All in all I the they were impressed but not impressed enough, I Feel it is going to be an awesome game, but wont leave people opened mouthed with amazement.

To conclude there article Alex says

Far Cry will always be a single-player game to me -- that's why I'm excited about playing through Far Cry 2, to explore the open world and have an experience that'll be different from anyone else's. And while I don't think the multiplayer has to same edge as Call of Duty, I do think it's an entertaining way to spend a few hours. I'll definitely give it a go when the final game comes out.
Which in my eyes is very true, come on Ubisoft bring on the Assault mode !!

Farcry 2 Grabs 9 out of 10!

Official XBox 360 Magazine have scored Farcry 2 an awesome 9 out of 10 today, there magazine which is out in the UK is released on the 24th Oct, which is the same day as Far cry 2 is also released in to the hands of the UK players market.

Here is some quotes from the magazine article:

Far Cry 2 is this year's equivalent of Assassin's Creed... when it comes to enveloping the player in exotic sights and sounds, Ubisoft has absolutely nailed it," says our reviewer Ben Talbot, explaining why Far Cry 2 could be this year's big hit like Ubisoft's acrobatic Assassin's Creed was in 2007. "What separates Far Cry 2 from other shooters of this ilk is that there really aren't any rules to follow.
As for the map editor goes (which we all know anyway)

the custom map feature makes Halo 3's editor look like a joke." And speaking of the game's difficulty, Ben also says that "it provides a truly refreshing level of difficulty for the hardcore.
Great news for all the Far cry 2 fans, another top score !
